🇸🇳 Senegal Crowned AFCON Champions After Dramatic Final Against Morocco

In one of the most dramatic finals in Africa Cup of Nations history, Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 after extra time to win the 2025 AFCON title on 18 January 2026. Senegal’s victory came at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, where tens of thousands of fans witnessed an emotional and controversial night of African football.

The only goal of the match was scored early in extra time by Pape Gueye, whose powerful strike beat Morocco’s goalkeeper and put Senegal ahead. The Teranga Lions held on in a tense finish to secure the continental trophy.

🔥 A Final Packed With Drama

The match itself was filled with controversy before extra time even began. Late in stoppage time, a VAR decision awarded Morocco a penalty that sparked outrage from Senegal’s players. In protest, the Senegal squad briefly walked off the pitch, refusing to continue play. After discussions led by captain Sadio ManĂ© and the team’s coach, the players returned, and Morocco’s Brahim DĂaz missed the spot-kick, sending the game into extra time.

Tensions among supporters spilled into the stands and surrounding areas, with angry scenes involving fans and stewards, while security forces were called in to calm the situation. Despite the chaos, Senegal regrouped and produced the decisive moment that won them the title.

🏆 What This Win Means

This triumph marks Senegal’s second-ever AFCON championship, following their first title in 2021. It confirms the Teranga Lions as one of Africa’s elite football sides and brings immense pride to supporters across Senegal and the continent.

As celebrations continue, the iconic and controversial nature of this final ensures that this AFCON will be remembered for both its football and its unforgettable moments.
