Tensions ran high in the Big Brother house this week as a sweeping disciplinary announcement shook housemates and reset the tone of the competition for the coveted two million rand prize.
Big Brother expressed deep disappointment over what was described as a growing culture of rule-breaking and lack of competitive discipline. Housemates were called out for multiple infringements, including singing political songs, discussing medication and production processes, requesting prohibited luxuries, ignoring the English-only communication rule without translating, wearing inappropriate attire during games and in the Diary Room, and engaging in malicious talk about fellow housemates. Disrespect toward microphones and verbal complaints about Big Brother’s operations were also cited as serious violations.
The housemates named in the announcement were Trixie, Ashay, Bravo B, Mashel, Neliswa, Koki, Dube, Liema, Ramona, Didi, Thandeka, Ilano, Mmeli, Tumi the Barber, Que, Buhle, King Wanda, and The Don.
While most of the house faced consequences, two contestants — Mshefane and Dene Jones — were publicly praised for exemplary conduct and exempted from punishment, standing out as models of discipline and respect for the game.
The most severe individual sanction was handed to Thandeka, who received a dual punishment for repeated microphone violations, ignoring language rules, and directly challenging Big Brother. Thandeka was banned from the next Head of House Games and any chance at immunity, and assigned a public “main character” costume until redemption in Big Brother’s eyes.
As a collective penalty, all housemates were evicted from the Sonic and Pitch bedrooms and ordered to camp in the lounge using only pillows and duvet covers. They were also tasked with cleaning a deliberately created mess over the weekend — a symbolic reflection of what Big Brother called the “chaos of their discipline and drive.”
With tensions rising and comfort stripped away, the message was clear: this is no holiday. As Big Brother reminded the house, there can only be one winner — and only those who focus on the prize will survive the pressure of the game.
